About the Smiley Scheme

The Danish Smiley Scheme helps consumers make safe and informed choices when dining out or buying food. It provides an easy-to-understand overview of food safety standards in restaurants, cafés, shops, and other food businesses.

What is the Smiley Scheme?

The Danish Veterinary and Food Agency (DVFA) inspects food businesses registered with the DVFA.

With the Smiley Scheme, the inspection results from the recent inspections are made publicly available on findsmiley.dk.

In addition, retail businesses - like restaurants, supermarkets and bakeries - are obliged to display their latest smiley label for consumers to see before entering the premises.

Find inspections reports online

On findsmiley.dk, you can search for food businesses and view their latest inspection results, previous reports, and additional details about their compliance history.

Why it matters

The scheme increases transparency and trust by:

  • Making inspection results easily accessible
  • Helping consumers compare food businesses
  • Encouraging companies to maintain high food safety standards
